Poker is a game of decisions. Some decisions are very easy to make, while others will keep you awake all night if you choose poorly. In my experience, the larger the pot size, the harder the decision you’ll be faced with.
On the other hand, the smaller the pot is, the easier the decision. Which is why, especially in tournament play, you want to keep the pot small when you’re holding a marginal hand. You don’t want to be facing a decision for all of your chips in a situation where all you’ve got is something like top pair with a medium-strength kicker. You want to avoid that scenario as much as possible. It’s better to keep the pot small by checking and calling rather than building a huge pot, even if you do hold an advantage in that hand.
Let me give you an example from a hand I played at a World Series of Poker event last year. We were still fairly early in the tournament, and I was in the cut-off (the seat before the button) holding K-J. The action folded around to me, I put in a raise and was called by the button. Both blinds folded, and we were heads-up going to the flop.

This new poker format is designed to minimize your wait time between hands and keep you in the action. You’ll join a large player pool and face a different table of opponents every hand you play. When you fold your hand, you’ll be moved to another table for a new hand.
Players don’t even need to wait for the action to go around to them! At any point in the hand, players can press “Quick Fold,” be taken to a new table, and be dealt hole cards again. This allows players to play around 300 hands per hour instead of the usual 80.
Players who prefer to learn their opponents’ tendencies will not have that luxury, as each different hand is played with a different group of opponents. “One of the big advantages of Rush Poker is that you can’t just observe and watch hand histories,” said Bloch, one of the members of Team Full Tilt, all of whom have been walking around with big smiles on their faces over the last few days.
“People can’t track or target you. You don’t have to worry about particular players spotting a weakness in your game.” Full Tilt Points are awarded in the same manner as a standard ring game. For every hand that you are dealt cards in, you’ll receive the standard one point per dollar raked from the pot.

His goal is to turn $5 into a staggering $100,000 in just 12 months. This will be a true test of not only his poker skills, but also bankroll management. This extraordinary player from Germany had already won more than $ 10 000 in just a few sessions, so he does not intend to deviate from the intended target. In addition, it intends to cover all stages of this crazy race on the blog. You can find all of his notes in the special section: Boku87 $5 to $100,000.
“The first week of the year is over and I am very happy with my start to 2010. Despite numerous down swings, my bankroll now stands at over $35,000. More importantly, I’ve already managed to earn over 45,000 VPP. As I’ve already mentioned in a previous post, this year my goal is to become a Supernova Elite, and for that I need to earn 1 million VPP”. by Boku87 on January 8, 2010 >>

Freeroll poker tournaments allow you to win real money without making a deposit or paying an entry fee. You can find out what it’s like to play when there’s real money at stake, without the risk of losing your cash. If you win, you can use that money to build a bankroll and play in higher stakes games, just as Chris Ferguson did when he turned $0 into a $10,000 bankroll.

My first poker experiences were in the low-limit 7-Stud games at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. From the start, poker was an important part of my income. It had to be. I couldn’t afford to go broke. I needed to avoid the fate that hit many of the good players around me. They experienced massive swings in fortune — one day they’re playing in the big games, the next they’re on the rail, trying to scrape together enough money for a buy-in.
Early in my poker career I set a simple rule for myself: I would never move to a higher limit until I won three consecutive sessions. If I lost three consecutive sessions at a given limit, I would move down to a lower limit. It took discipline to stick to my rule. For a very long time – years, in fact – I never made it beyond the low-limit tables. I couldn’t put together three consecutive wins. It was frustrating, but it was a great learning experience. By the time I made it to higher limits, I was a seasoned, experienced player who could deal with the intense competition I encountered.
